Through a selection of images and texts collected in this publication, the artist reflects with her gaze directed both backwards and forwards in history, on man's relationship to nature and how it adapts to a rapidly changing world. She does this by capturing the subtle, invisible yet essential nuances of life and invites us into a world almost similar to the one we know, yet different. Through her characteristic color combinations and surprising juxtapositions of elements, she creates a universe where things seem to belong together but still do not. And where the viewer asks questions and reflects again on what seemed obvious, but which still is not.

Yttredal has initiated a collaboration with Lars - Otto Reiersen, researcher, marine biologist, advisor at the University of Tromsø in Arctic and the international organization AMAP, and with Solveig Andresen, advisor for international sustainable development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their texts are interpretations of a selection of Yttredal's images seen through personal experiences and related to scientific facts. Both are concerned with the consequences of human activity in affecting the fragile ecosystems. Art critic Lars Elton discusses the concept of «possible landscapes», various techniques and the artist's overall perspective in connection with Norwegian and international contemporary art. Central to the story is the artist's seemingly naturalistic grip - not as topographical possibilities, but wanderings through possible landscapes, art as staging in a cinematic rather than a romantic context. This is about how legends and epic works with resonance in the present, which we find in literature and film, can be part of a discourse where romance, symbolism, the present and visions of the future meet the light as a general category of cognition.

This approach is based on the artist's studies of various landscape conservation areas, such as southern Jeløy, which is located on the southwestern part of Jeløya in Moss municipality, Viken. And here is Alby farm with Gallery F15 and Røed Gård with Gallery Røed Jeløy, where Yttredal shows auguts 2021 a selection of works inspired by her encounter with the area set in a larger perspective. As a note not mentioned in the book's introduction, Yttredal has subsequently received a commission from Moss Municipality to create a work that would enter into a dialogue with Edvard Munch's art. This based on the fact that from 12 February to 4 May 2022, Gallery F 15 on Jeløya shows an exhibition of Munch's work period in this area. Yttredal is one of seven contemporary artists who have been invited to enter into a dialogue with themes from Munch's art, and her painting "The Narrator's Puzzle" is meant to communicate with Munch's "History", which is one of three paintings representing public art at the University's auditorium.

Menneskeheten og jordkloden har alvorlige utfordringer. Klimakrise, naturkatastrofer, menneskemasser på flukt, det biologiske mangfoldet ødelegges, dyr og planter utryddes. Gjennom et utvalg bilder og tekster samlet i denne publikasjonen, reflekterer kunstneren og forfatteren over menneskets forhold til naturen og hvordan det tilpasser seg en rask foranderlig verden. Hun har innledet et samarbeid med forsker og marinbiolog Lars-Otto Reiersen, rådgiver for rektor ved Arktisk Universitet i Tromsø og tidligere leder for den internasjonale forskningsstiftelsen AMAP, og med Solveig Andresen, rådgiver i seksjon for energi, klima, og matsikkerhet i Utenriksdepartementet. I anledning den omfattende utstillingen av Yttredals kunst på Galleri Røed Jeløy i august 2021, har kunstneren og forskerne samlet et utvalg av Yttredals bilder og tekster i boken I verden. Boken inneholder 48 kunstreproduksjoner av kunstnerens bilder, og personlige erfaringer gjennom kunstneriske uttrykk, knyttet sammen med forskernes vitenskapelige fakta. Begge parter er opptatt av konsekvenser av menneskelig aktivitet i påvirkning av de skjøre økosystemene. I boken drøfter også kunstanmelder Tiril Flom kunstnerens overordnede perspektiv og teknikker hun anvender i sine to- og tredimensjonale verker gjennom en livslang prosess, og kunstkritiker Lars Elton kunstnerens evne til å møte publikum med estetiske og etiske utfordringer de ikke aner er der, før de investerer litt tid. Bokprosjektet er støttet av Fritt Ord og Bildende Kunstneres Hjelpefond.

Colour, design, communication provides a comprehensive insight into the importance of light. The interaction between light and colour is a recurrent theme. Some of the key questions we ask here are: How do we respond to colour and light? How can we use light to shape the physical environment? How can we communicate and convey messages by means of light? The book deals with light and colour theories, phenomena related to visual perception, and principles of lighting. I explore how light and colour affects us, both in nature and art. With today’s technology it is possible to put visions into reality, but we are also committed to solving future climate and energy challenges. Specific lighting solutions are presented through a number of projects in architecture and design, indoors and outdoors, from Norway and around the world. The book aims to trigger the reader`s imagination, and to inspire her or him to start and create own experiments with colour and light.
